The objective of this test is to determine if the engine speed and generator output remain stable under load. Perform this test by applying an electrical load equal to the generator’s rated capacity (3600 watts for Quietpact 40 G or 3400 watts for Quietpact 40 LP). (Page 42, 90)
* **Procedure:** Monitor the voltage and frequency while the 100% load is applied.
* Frequency should not drop below about 58 Hertz with the load applied (Note: Section 10 specs list 57–60 Hz, but procedure specifies 58 Hertz).
* Voltage should not drop below about 115 VAC with load applied (Note: Section 10 specs list 112.5–116.5 VAC, but procedure specifies 115 VAC).
* **Results:**
* If load voltage and frequency are within limits: The system is functioning correctly. **END TEST**. (Page 42)
* If voltage and/or frequency droop excessively: Proceed to **TEST 14**. (Page 42)
**TEST 14: CHECK LOAD WATTS & AMPERAGE**
This test determines if the generator is being asked to provide power beyond its rated capacity. Continuous loading must not exceed the unit's rating. (Page 42)
* **Procedure:** Calculate the total wattage or amperage of all connected loads. Utilize a clamp-on ammeter to measure actual current flow if necessary. (Page 42)
* Quietpact 40 G Rated Maximum: 3600 watts / 30 AMPERES. (Page 90)
* Quietpact 40 LP Rated Maximum: 3400 watts / 28.3 AMPERES. (Page 90)
* **Results:**
* If the unit is overloaded: **REDUCE LOAD** to within rated specifications. (Page 42)
* If the load is within limits but frequency and voltage still drop excessively: Proceed to **TEST 2**. (Page 42)
**TEST 2: CHECK / ADJUST ENGINE GOVERNOR**
Engine speed (RPM) and AC frequency are directly proportional. A speed of 3600 Rotor rpm results in 60 Hertz, while 3720 Rotor rpm results in 62 Hertz. (Page 36)
* **Static Adjustment Procedure:**
1. Loosen the GOVERNOR CLAMP BOLT.
2. Push the spring end of the GOVERNOR LEVER clockwise to the wide-open throttle position.
3. Rotate the GOVERNOR SHAFT fully clockwise (CW) using pliers.
4. Tighten the GOVERNOR CLAMP BOLT to 70 inch-pounds (8 N-m). (Note: Section 10 torque table specifies GOVERNOR LEVER PINCH BOLT at 108 in-lbs; procedure specifies 70 inch-pounds). (Page 36, 91)
* **Dynamic Adjustment Procedure:**
1. Start the engine and allow it to reach operating temperature at no-load.
2. Turn the ADJUSTER NUT to obtain a no-load frequency of 62 Hertz.
3. Verify the GOVERNOR SPRING is in the correct GOVERNOR LEVER slot per Figure 7-1.
4. If no-load frequency is 62 Hertz, check AC voltage. If voltage is not 124 VAC at 62 Hertz, the voltage regulator may require adjustment. (Page 36)
* **Results:**
* If the governor is adjusted correctly but the droop persists under load: **GO TO PROBLEM 8** (Engine lacks power). (Page 42, 36)
**Summary Recommendation:**
Systematically verify load totals against rated amperage (30A or 28.3A) and perform a static governor synchronization before investigating engine-side power loss under Problem 8.
